Yves Flückiger has held the position of Rector of the University of Geneva since July 2015. He has a degree in business and sociology and a doctorate in economics. He was made a professor at the University of Geneva in 1992. Among other roles, he has headed the Observatoire universitaire de l’emploi (OUE), which monitors developments on the labour market, and he was also responsible for the Swiss Leading House on Economics of Education.

The President chairs the Board and represents swissuniversities and all Swiss universities at national and international level. In Yves Flückiger, the plenary assembly has elected someone experienced in handling, negotiating and resolving matters relating to higher education policy. Yves Flückiger has identified the following priorities for swissuniversities and will monitor the progress in these areas: Cooperation and coordination between the different educational institutions (universities, universities of applied sciences, teacher education universities); continuous dialogue between the institutions and the Swiss public with the aim of sharing knowledge; support in the parliamentary debate of the Federal Council Dispatch on the Promotion of Education, Research and Innovation (ERI), which defines the objectives and the financial framework for the period 2021-2024; and Swiss cooperation with Europe in the fields of research and education, particularly the country’s participation in the research programmes of Horizon Europe (2021-2027).

Yves Flückiger: ‘A diverse, internationally networked university landscape marked by excellence is key to ensuring a Switzerland that identifies problems, develops innovative solutions and implements them.’
