swissuniversities

swissuniversities is the Rectors’ Conference of the Swiss Universities. It became operational on 1 January 2015 when the Federal Act on the Promotion of Universities and Coordination in the Swiss Higher Education Sector (HFKG) came into force.

Already in 2012, the universities, universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education in Switzerland jointly founded the swissuniversities association, thus preparing the merger of the former conferences of rectorsCRUS , KFH and COHEP (statutes of the association).

swissuniversities is constituted as an association and has the following bodies:

The Rectors' Conference has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • It issues statements related to the affairs of the Swiss Conference of Higher Education Institutions and submits requests to the latter on behalf of the universities.
  • It can take on mandates from the federal government as well as programme and project management.
  • Furthermore, the Rectors' Conference maintains an information centre for the academic recognition of the equivalence of domestic and foreign university diplomas (Swiss ENIC; responsibility for issuing professional licences remains reserved to political institutions).
