Evaluation of Foreign University Diplomas
Most of the professions in Switzerland are not regulated. This means that no recognition of a diploma is necessary to work in Switzerland in such a profession. The employer decides during the application process whether you have sufficient experience and the required qualifications for a position.
At times, an employer might ask for a so-called level confirmation of your university degree. We deliver this level confirmation.
The level confirmation includes information regarding your education and your degree. This information can help your employer to better evaluate your qualifications. The confirmation is a supplement to your application documents.
The level confirmation has no legal bearing on your degree or your title. Regardless of the confirmation, your diploma remains the basis for your qualifications.
Step 1: Does Swiss ENIC evaluate your higher education qualification?
Go through the following questions and do the self-test:
- Do you want to work in Switzerland?
- Have you applied for advertised positions in Switzerland in the last 3 months?
- Does your potential employer explicitly ask for a level confirmation for your degree?
- Do you have a foreign university degree that leads to a non-regulated profession?
If you answered ‘yes’ to all questions, please proceed to step 2.
If you answered ‘no’ to any question, Swiss ENIC is not responsible.
Step 2: In which country was your diploma issued?
Go through the list of countries on the ENIC-NARIC network website. Check whether you received your diploma in a country that is listed.
If the country is not listed, there is no authority in Switzerland that recognises your foreign diploma.
If your country is listed, proceed to step 3.
Step 3: Have you prepared all the necessary documents?
Please prepare all of these documents in PDF format:
- Passport or identity card and Swiss residence permit
- Original diploma*
- List of subjects, transcript of records, or diploma supplement*
- Employer confirmation
* We do not require translations for documents in German, French, Italian, and English. For all other languages, please enclose an official translation.
Note: When filling out the form, please ensure that your personal details are correct. We can only evaluate one diploma. Please choose one degree.
Step 4: Are you ready to submit your application?
The data must be entered electronically. This requires a personal user account on the electronic online portal. Once all the data has been entered, the documents are uploaded, and the application is submitted electronically for preliminary review.
