TP2: Cooperation between Swiss UASAs/UTEs and Swiss universities (2017-2020)

Contents: Supporting cooperative projects in the field of doctoral courses between UASAs/UTEs and universities.

Target group: The programme addresses UASAs and UTEs in cooperation with universities.

Duration: The programme is part of the federal project contributions 2017–2020. Due to the Covid-related situation, the Swiss Hochschulkonferenz decided on 26 November 2020 to extend the programme up to 31 December 2021.

Call for tenders: UASAs and UTEs were invited to submit applications for funding in 2016. Other calls for proposals take place in 2020 and 2021.

The "TP2: Cooperation between Swiss universities of applied sciences and arts / Swiss universities of teacher education (UASA/UTE) and Swiss universities" programme supports cooperative projects in the field of doctoral studies between Swiss universities on the one hand and Swiss UASAs/UTEs on the other. The funded cooperative projects are established and implemented jointly by the partner UASAs/UTEs and universities. Each of them contributes its specific specialist skills and all of them jointly ensure the quality of the doctoral studies offered. The goal is to set up partnerships that support supervision of doctoral students working at UASAs/UTEs. The responsible persons at the various types of higher education institutions join together in providing this supervision. The doctoral degrees are issued by the Swiss universities.

Objectives:

  • Consolidating cooperation between Swiss universities and Swiss UASAs/UTEs in the field of doctorates
  • Strengthening young talent with a UASA/UTE profile

Project applications could be submitted in three categories. However, a single cooperative project could also apply for funding in more than one category.

Category A: Doctoral programmes

A doctoral degree is the sum of three components: a dissertation or doctoral thesis, doctoral studies (individual or as part of a programme of doctoral studies) and awarding of the doctoral degree. A doctoral programme is a structured course of education. It can have the following objectives:

  • acquisition of cross-functional skills
  • the induction of the doctoral candidate into a national and/or international scientific community
  • deeper knowledge of a particular discipline

Category B: Other forms of cooperation for preparing doctorates

This category includes more than one doctoral programme and can include support activities for doctoral candidates. This can also involve a group of professors and doctoral candidates who work together on a research topic based on cooperation between universities, UASAs and UTEs – however, without being specifically attached to a doctoral programme.

Category C: Other joint activities in the area of doctoral studies

Category C includes other joint activities in the area of doctoral studies, such as workshops for those supporting the doctoral candidates as well as the doctoral students themselves.

The following cooperation projects have been accepted:
