The Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic offers scholarships for talented international students who wish to pursue full-time studies at a higher education institution based in Slovakia, in bachelor’s degree programmes, combined bachelor’s and master’s programmes, or master’s degree programmes.

  • 150 bachelor's studies scholarships are available for applicants from abroad who intend to pursue their bachelor's studies in Slovakia in the academic year 2025/2026.
  • 45 master's studies scholarships are available for students who were supported by the previous scholarship scheme under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) at the bachelor's level as well as for applicants from abroad who intend to pursue their master's studies in Slovakia in the academic year 2025/2026.
  • The scholarship does not apply to doctoral studies.


Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • citizenship of a country other than Slovakia, which must be confirmed by an acceptable form of identification (generally a passport; those from countries within the European Union, EEA and Switzerland can use a national ID card). Dual citizenship than includes Slovak and Swiss citizenship is allowed. This does not apply to Slovaks living abroad with the Slovak citizenship, who submit a copy of the Certificate in accordance with § 7 of Act No. 474/2005 Coll. on Slovaks Living Abroad, along with their scholarship application.
  • no permanent or temporary residence in Slovakia since January 1st, 2020 until the date of submitting the scholarship application, with the exception of temporary residence for attending a Slovak language or study preparation course, or with the exception of temporary residence for participating in an activity or programme under the Erasmus+ programme or the European Solidarity Corps programme, or other academic mobility. This does not apply to applicants for a scholarship at the master's level of study who have previously been supported by a scholarship scheme financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) during their bachelor's studies.
  • no prior study at a high school or HEI in Slovakia, except for academic mobilities. Studies outside of Slovakia are not a contradicting factor for applying for this scholarship. This does not apply to applicants for a scholarship at the master's level of study who have previously been supported by a scholarship scheme financed by the RRP during their bachelor's studies.
  • completed secondary education for applicants applying for a scholarship at the bachelor's or combined bachelor's and master's level (it may be completed in the academic year 2024/2025; verified by the HEI during the admission process), or completed first-level higher education (bachelor's degree) for applicants applying for a scholarship at the master's level (verified by the HEI during the admission process)
  • for applicants for a scholarship at the bachelor's or combined bachelor's and master's level: admission to a public Slovak HEI for a bachelor's study programme or a combined bachelor's and master's study programme, with studies taking place in the territory of the Slovak Republic (at the time of submitting the scholarship application, it is sufficient to have applied to a public Slovak HEI). For applicants for a scholarship at the master's level: admission to a public Slovak HEI for a master's study programme, with studies taking place in the territory of the Slovak Republic (at the time of submitting the scholarship application, it is sufficient to have applied to a public Slovak HEI),
  • full time, in-person study programme
  • no upper age limit, applicants under the age of 18 will need a hand-signed approval from their legal guardian

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship amounts of €5,000 per academic year.

  • 3 years of support for full-time Bachelor's degree studies or for the first three years of a full-time joint Bachelor’s and Master’s degree study programme
  • 2 years of support for full-time Masters's degree studies

The scholarship is provided for a duration of ten months each year, from September through June, with a payment of €500 per month.

Place of SubmissionThe application must be submitted online at https://scholarships.portalvs.sk/login.
A complete application must include all necessary attachments, SAT test results and solemn declarations.
RemarksSAT scores will be the only criterion for the selection of successful applicants. To be considered for the scholarship, a minimum SAT score of 1100 is required. The SAT test is an essential requirement for this scholarship application and cannot be substituted with any other alternative or waived.
The award of a scholarship does not imply acceptance or enrolment at a higher education institution. Applicants must submit a separate application directly to the public Slovak higher education institution of their choice.
To become a scholarship holder, the applicant must be officially enrolled in the first year of a selected study programme starting in the autumn of 2025!
The scholarship programme cannot be combined with the Scholarship of the Government of the Slovak Republic for full Bachelor degree programmes.
