Research is among the core missions of Swiss universities. It focuses on fundamental questions and promotes new insights, scientific and social innovation, and the transfer of knowledge and technology.

The universities provide funding for research, e.g. as part of hiring or in the form of research funds, and in doing so they attempt to create an optimal framework. At the same time, they support their researchers in the acquisition of third-party funds, as the majority of research at Swiss universities is funded this way.

swissuniversities tackles questions about research, development and the next generation of researchers with the goal of creating and maintaining an optimal framework for universities. In doing so, it carries out coordinating duties, manages projects and takes positions on policy questions related to research and young academics.
