The State Scholarships Foundation (Ι.Κ.Υ.) offers up to fifty (50) scholarships to foreign nationals from countries worldwide in order to attend courses and seminars in the Modern Greek Language and Culture.
COURSE OVERVIEW
- Greek Language: This programme offers learning opportunities at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels following a placement test and subject to sufficient students’ number.
- History and Culture: Beneficiaries will be introduced to Greek History, Culture and Arts through seminars, educational visits to the sites of the city of study and excursions to other historic sites of Greece.
- Cultural Programme: Cultural events are included in the course where an active participation is required.
DURATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The duration of this scholarship is seven (7) months and is only offered for a specific course in the Modern Greek language and culture organised mainly at one Greek University. The University, which will hold this course, will be decided by the I.K.Y after a selection process.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ELIGIBILITY
Applicants should:
- Be nationals of any country of the world excluding Greece (not with dual nationality – both foreign and Greek).
- Hold a graduate degree from a non-Greek University outside Greece.
- Not exceed the fortieth (40th) year of age
- Be not permanent residents in Greece.
- The knowledge of the Greek language acquired during this specific course should contribute to enhance the candidates work opportunities and to promote the Greek language and culture in their countries.
Applicants must meet the above requirements by the application deadline.
DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED
1. An application form, duly completed, signed and with one recent photograph attached.
2. An up-to-date curriculum vitae according to the european template “Europass” (in English or Greek language).
3. Certified copies of University Diplomas – Degrees.
4. Certificates indicating the knowledge of Greek (if any) or English or French language.
5. Two (2) letters of reference (in Greek, English or French) by a University Professor.
6. A written evidence of employment as a teacher of Greek, if any.
7. A recent (issued 1 month approximately prior to the application submission) health certificate by a national hospital or from the relevant recognized health service stating that the applicant does not suffer from any infectious diseases.
8. A copy of a valid passport / national identity card.
The above original documentation requested shall be submitted through the Greek Diplomatic Authorities.
Only the application form and the curriculum vitae shall also be submitted earlier (as word documents) to the email: foreigners@iky.gr
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
The scholarship covers the following costs:
- Free meals and accommodation in University residence or in flats provided by the University which will undertake the programme.
- A monthly allowance of 150, 00€ (net amount) for personal expenses.
- 200, 00€ for initial expenses.
- Free emergency medical treatment under the Greek National Health Service (only in public hospitals). European citizens should have the European Insurance Illness Card from their insurance agency of their country.

MFA Scholarships for foreign students for the academic year 2022-2023

Basic Requirements:
- The applicant should hold a BA or BSc degree (or higher) and have a good record of academic achievement.
- The applicant should be a citizen of the country where he/she applies for the scholarship and be under the age of 35 (at the beginning of the academic year). Israeli citizens are not eligible to submit an application for this scholarship. Recipients of the scholarship must receive a student visa (A2), issued by the Israeli embassy to which their application was submitted.
- Proof of English or Hebrew language proficiency.
- The applicant should meet the academic requirements of the Israeli University to which he/she applies. A scholarship will be granted only after the required Institute approves the acceptance of the candidate.
The one academic year scholarship includes:
- Partial tuition fees - if applied (50% up to a maximum of $ 6,000 for tuition fees of $ 12,000 and higher)
- Monthly allowance for one academic year (8 months only, October until June)
- Basic health insurance*
The Summer Language Course Includes:

2. Taiwan Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program (HES)
The Ministry of Education (MOE) in the Republic of China (Taiwan) provides the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) for foreign Mandarin/Chinese learners including beginners to study at any accredited Mandarin center in a university or college in Taiwan.

Republik Korea

The Korean Government represented by the National Institute for International Education Development (NIIED) offers Graduate Scholarships to several countries, including Switzerland. NIIED has announced the application guidelines of the 2021 Korean Government Scholarship Program for Graduate Degrees.
REQUIREMENTS
○ Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of September 1, 2022 (born after September 1, 1982)
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must hold or must be expected to hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s or a Doctoral degree.
○ Doctoral Program Applicants: Must hold a Master’s degree or a level of education equivalent to a Master’s degree.
○ Master’s Program Applicants: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a level of education equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree.
○ Research Program Applicants: Must hold a degree or a level of education equivalent to or higher than a Master’s degree and must have received an invitation from one of NIIED’s designated Korean universities.
HEALTH
○ All applicants must be in good health, both mentally and physically, to study in Korea for the full duration of degree or research programs.
○ All applicants must submit ” Form 8. Personal Medical Assessment ” at the time of applying.
○ All applicants who pass the 2nd round of selection must receive comprehensive medical checkup and submit the certificate of health and medical examination result issued by a medical doctor or a licensed hospital.
○ If an applicant is found to be in one of the following conditions, the applicant will be disqualified in the final round of selection:
– An applicant is tested positive on drug tests;
– An applicant owns serious illness that prevents him or her to study abroad for long period of time including the full duration of degree or research program in Korea.
After arriving in Korea, all GKS scholars will be subject to a medical examination
administered by NIIED. If a GKS scholar is found to have a serious illness from the medical
examination after arriving in Korea, he or she will be disqualified from their GKS scholarship.
NOTES FOR ALL APPLICANTS
○ All application documents must be written either in Korean or English.
○ Documents written in languages other than Korean or English must accompany a complete Korean or English translation, authenticated by the issuing institution or notarized by a notary public.
○ All application documents must be presented in their original forms. If an applicant has to submit photocopied documents, applicant MUST have the photocopies notarized, apostilled, or receive consular confirmation and submit those certified documents.
○ All documents submitted will NOT be returned to the applicants in any case.
○ Application documents must be submitted in the order of the checklist on the first page of the application forms. Each required document must be numbered and labeled on the top right corner.
○ Any fraudulent or incomplete applications will be disregarded.

Detailes:
a) Bachelor’s degree: bachelor's degree programmes are addressed to graduates of high school
studies or pre-university studies at the end of which they obtained a baccalaureate degree or
equivalent, as well as candidates applying for further university studies in Romania. The
complete programme runs for a period of 3-6 years, depending on the specialization followed
and ends with a bachelor's exam;
b) Master’s degree: master's degree programmes are addressed to undergraduates, run for a period
of 1 year, 1.5 years or 2 years and end with the dissertation exam;
c) PhD: doctoral programmes are addressed to graduate students or equivalent and run for a period
of 3-5 years, depending on the profile of the chosen faculty and end with the presentation of a
PhD thesis.
- Language of the study:
In order to promote Romanian language and culture, the Ministry of National Education Scientific Research has decided that the beneficiaries of the scholarships should study only in the Romanian language. The candidates who do not know Romanian are offered one supplementary preparatory year to study the language.

MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) offers scholarships to Swiss students and artists who wish to study at Japanese universities as research students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2023.
The Embassy of Japan in Switzerland and the Scholarship Service of swissuniversies conduct the preliminary screening which consits of a document inspection, written language examinations (Japanese, English) and an interview.
QUALIFICATIONS (extracted from the Application Guidelines):
- Swiss Nationality: An applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application is not eligible.
- Age: Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1988.
- Academic Requirements: Applicants must be university graduates and have completed at least 16 years of formal education.
- Major Field of Study: Applicant should apply for the field of study he/she studied at the previous university or any related field. Applicant must choose a field on which he/she can receive education and perform research at the university of his/her choice.
- Japanese Language: Applicant must be willing to learn the Japanese language, interested in Japan and enthusiastic about deepening his/her understanding of Japan after arriving, and capable of engaging in study and research while adapting himself/herself to life in Japan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) offers scholarships for foreign students and Italian nationals living abroad (IRE) for the 2021-2022 Academic Year, with the aim of fostering cooperation in the cultural, scientific and technological fields, the projection of Italy's economic system in the world and the dissemination of knowledge of Italian language and culture.
Grants are offered to complete study courses and research/training programs in public or legally
recognized Italian educational institution.

Italian Language and Culture Courses - Grants for Italian language and culture courses are awarded exclusively for a period of 3 (three) months to students currently attending an Italian course at a Universityor at an Italian Cultural Institute. The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia offers a number of scholarship months to foreign nationals, on the basis of bilateral agreement and reciprocity. For the academic year 2022/2023 a total of 12 months are offered to Switzerland.
Eligibility
This scholarships scheme is designed for university/college students or graduates and Ph.D. applicants who wish to accomplish a part of their study at one of the Slovenian higher education institutions. The age limit of the applicants for study stays is 26 years (the applicant may not complete 26 years of age before the end of the scholarship period) and 30 years for research visit. The applicants for study stays should be proficient in the Slovene language, unless the working language is agreed upon with the mentor/supervisor.
Scholarship
The scholarship cannot be awarded for a complete course of study leading to a degree. Neither can the scholarship be granted for any Slovenian language course. A part of postgraduate study is based on individual works under the supervision of Slovenian professor/mentor. The length of the scholarship usually ranges from 3 to 10 months depending upon the agreement concerned that specifies also the categories of eligible recipients.
Benefits
For the academic year 2022/2023, the scholarship comprises of:
- 300 EUR per month
- free accommodation in the facilities (student dormitory) of the Student Centre of the Universities (paid by CMEPIUS directly to provider)
- Subsidised meals - 2,69 EUR/per working day via Student Organisation of Slovenia
- basic medical insurance for non-EU applicants if there is no bilateral agreement on health insurance between Slovenia and the applicant’s home country (paid for by CMEPIUS directly to provider)

The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic is funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic. The programme supports mobility of international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists for scholarship stays at higher education institutions and research organisations in Slovakia.
Eligible applicants
- students who:
- are university students at universities outside Slovakia;
- are students of the second level of higher education (master's students), or are students who at the time of application deadline have already completed at least 2.5 years of their university studies in the same study programme;
- will be on a study stay in Slovakia during their higher education outside Slovakia and who will be accepted by a public, private or state university in Slovakia for an academic mobility to study in Slovakia.
All 3 conditions must be met. This category does not apply to doctoral (PhD) studies (or their equivalent).
- PhD students whose higher education or scientific training takes place outside Slovakia and who are accepted by a public, private or state university or a research institution in Slovakia eligible to carry out a doctoral study programme (e.g. the Slovak Academy of Sciences) for an academic mobility to study/conduct research/artistic stay in Slovakia.
- international university teachers, researchers and artists who are invited to a teaching/research/artistic stay in Slovakia by an institution with a valid certificate of eligibility to carry out research and development, which is not a business company and it has its seat in Slovakia.
Duration of a scholarship stay
- students: 1 – 2 full semesters (i.e. 4 – 5 or 9 – 10 months) or full 1 – 3 trimesters, in case the academic year is divided into trimesters (i.e. 3 – 4 or 6 – 7 or 9 – 10 months)
- PhD students: 1 – 10 months
- university teachers, researchers and artists: 1 – 10 months
Amount of the monthly scholarship
- university student of the second level of higher education: €400

- university teacher/researcher/artist: €734 - €1'050
The scholarship is intended to cover international scholarship holders’ living costs, i.e. the costs related to staying in Slovakia (food, accommodation, etc.), during their study, research/artistic or teaching stay at universities and in research organisations in Slovakia.

Within the framework of a reciprocal exchange, the Republic of Poland, represented by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange NAWA, offers 4 scholarships of 9 months each to Switzerland. The scholarships can be divided into short scholarships of i.e. 1 month or granted for a semester or a full academic year.
Objectives
The scholarships are offered for the following objectives:
- completion of a scientific internship;
- completion of partial studies;
- completion of university studies (1st cycle, 2nd cycle or uniform master's studies) or education at a doctoral school; university studies or education at a doctoral school may be preceded by a preparatory course for studies2;
- study visit;
- obtaining materials for scientific work;
- conducting didactic classes in the Host Centre;
- other form or forms of scientific or academic activity related to the implementation of studies, preparation of doctoral thesis or scientific work.
In case of application for internships, partial studies or study visits, the applicant must also enclose an invitation from the Host Centre, signed by the head of the unit, confirming the will to accept the scholarship holder for the requested period of time. In case of applying for full studies, the applicant has to meet the recruitment requirements of the selected university. The final decision on admission shall be made by the Host Centre.
Eligible Applicants
Individuals can apply for the Programme
- who are graduates of secondary schools holding school leaving certificate at the beginning of the Programme (starting education in Poland) which gives them the right to study in the country where the certificate was issued in any field and at any type of university, or
- who are students at foreign universities, or
- who have the status of a doctoral student in a foreign higher education and science system, or
- who are university graduates and have obtained their diploma not earlier than two years before the current call for proposals, as well as have the recommendation of their university
- who are applying for admission to the next degree of education, or
- who are employees of a foreign higher education or science institution, conducting research or didactic work, and at the same time are not employed in an institution of the Polish higher education and science system
Students with dual citizenship (Poland/CH) are not eligible for Polish Government scholarships, even if they live and study in Switzerland.
Applicants who are already studying in Poland cannot apply for a scholarship. Exceptions to this rule are possible under certain circumstances.

In addition, students of full studies in Poland are entitled to:
- in the first year of studies - the first monthly scholarship increased by the lump sum of PLN 500 for the settlement in Poland (this shall apply to persons who have not completed studies at a lower level in Poland);
- in the last year of studies - the last monthly scholarship increased by the lump sum of PLN 500 for the costs related to the preparation of the diploma thesis.
Scholarship holders are not entitled to any benefits other than those listed above. The planned costs indicated in the application cannot be financed from other sources, including Erasmus+ scholarship.
Application documents
The required attachments to the application form are listed on page 5f of the Announcement. In the case of application for internships, partial studies or study visits, the applicant shall also enclose a confirmation of the knowledge of Polish or a foreign language, enabling communication with the Host Centre in Poland, at a minimum B1 level.
IMPORTANT: The application must be submitted in two (2) identical copies in one of the following languages: Polish or English. Should documents be issued in other languages (i.e. transcripts), a copy of the original document accompanied with an official translation into Polish or English is required. Documents in other languages will not be accepted.

Mexican Government's Merit Awards for International Students
Scholarship Offer
For the academic years 2020/2021 and 2021/2022, due to the coronavirus situation and changes and restructuring in procedures within the Mexican federal administration, it was not possible to award scholarships to international students under the Mexican Government Excellence Scholarships for International Students.
We do not know at this time if a new Call for applications will be launched for the academic year 2022/2023. The Embassy of Mexico in Switzerland will inform us as soon as they have received new information from the Mexican government.

As part of a reciprocal exchange, the government of Mexico, represented by the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), offers 4 scholarships to Switzerland for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate study and research.
The scholarships are offered for the institutions and programs specified in the "List of Institutions and Academic Programs" in order to conduct academic activities from 1st of March to the 10th of December 2020 (No scholarships will be awarded for studies started after the 10th of December 2020).
Requirements for all applicants:
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Degree, as required by the program for which the scholarship is requested. Technical and/or commercial degree titles are not accepted. For the cases of mobility at the Bachelor's level, it will not be necessary to submit a diploma, only proof of studies of the last academic period completed, issued by the institution of origin.
- Applicants must have achieved a minimum grade point average of eighty (80), on a scale of 0 to 100, or the equivalent, for the last academic degree received. Applications with a lower grade point average will not be considered.
- Applicants must be accepted or currently enrolled in a program of the participating Mexican institutions.
Scholarships are not granted for direct Ph.D. programs (combined M.A. and Ph.D. programs), distance learning programs, open or online education.
The following academic programs are not eligible for scholarships: Business Administration, Plastic Surgery, Accounting, Marketing, Advertising and Publicity, Dentistry and Odontology, as well as related fields.

Latvia offers scholarships to foreign students, researchers and teaching staff for studies, research and participation in summer schools in Latvian higher education institutions.
Latvian scholarships for studies
Eligable applicants:
- Bachelor's students who have already successfully completed at least 1 academic year at any higher education institution;
- Master’s or PhD students from any previous higher education institution
Amount of the scholarships:
- €500 per month for Bachelor’s or Master’s students;
- €700 per month for Phd students.
Awarded time period:
- Up to 10 month for Bachelor’s and Master’s students;
- Up to 11 months for PhD students
Scholarship for master’s studies in the study programmes of Latvian philology, Latvian literature, Latvian culture and Latvian history can be granted for two academic years, i.e. for the duration of master’s study programme.
Latvian fellowships for research
Fellowships for research at Latvian higher education and research institutions are not available in 2022!
Latvian scholarships for summer schools
International students, academic and research staff of foreign higher education institutions are eligible for the Latvian State scholarship for participation in summer schools.
- The amount of the Latvian scholarship granted by the VIAA for summer school is 711 EUR per person for the duration of the summer school. The scholarships will be transferred by the VIAA to the summer school organizers, no money will be handed out to the Latvian scholarship winners.
- The participants of the summer schools must cover travel expenses from the country of origin to the summer school location in Latvia, as well as insurance and visa expenses by themselves;

Study stays: Applications for scholarships for studies at Latvian higher education institutions have to be submitted online to VIAA.
Summer schools: The necessary documents for the summer schools must be submitted directly to the organizers of the summer schools and they will inform all applicants about the results of the scholarship competition. Information on how to apply for the scholarship for participation in summer schools can be found on the website of the higher education institution in Latvia organizing the summer school.
Remarks
Latvian scholarships for studies:
- An applicant must receive a letter of acceptance for the chosen study programme from the Latvian higher education institution prior to the application for a scholarship.
- Language of instruction at Latvian higher education institutions is mainly Latvian, however there are a few study programmes offered in English (please, visit the website www.studyinlatvia.lv for more information). The Icelandic Ministry of Education, Science and Culture awards on a competitive multilateral basis scholarships to several countries - including Switzerland – for studies in Icelandic as a second language at the University of Iceland, Reykjavík. Approximately 14 scholarships are available for the period from September 1st 2022 to May 31st 2023.
Eligibility
The scholarships are intended for students of modern Icelandic. Students must have completed at least one year of University study. Students must also have prior knowledge of Icelandic according to the requirements for BA study in Icelandic as a second language (Icelandic knowledge on the level with the courses Icelandic Online 1 and 2). Preference will, as a rule, be given to a candidate under 35 years of age.
Scholarship
The scholarship covers registration fees at the University and a monthly stipend that should cover room and board for one person, payable at the beginning of each month, September to April. A room will be available for rent in the University dormitory, Gamli Garður.

The Estonian Ministry of Education and Research and Education and Youth Board offer scholarships to foreign nationals in the framework of the Estonian Scholarship Programme for international students, researchers and academic staff.
- Scholarships for summer and winter schools
The purpose of the scholarship is to support foreign students participation in short summer or winter school courses of Estonian language and culture courses organized by the Estonian institutions of higher education as well as in summer and winter schools related to the degree programmes taught in English. The scholarship can be awarded to the BA, MA and PhD students who are enrolled to the higher education institution abroad at least one year by the time of application. The candidate should pre-register to the course for applying for the scholarship.
The scholarship includes a course fee in the amount of up to 500 EUR and the cost of accommodation in the amount of up to 25 EUR per night for a maximum period of 4 weeks. The board transfers and concludes a contract directly to the university organizing the course. In the application round of the 2022 summer school, students can also apply for a scholarship to cover the participation fee for online courses.
- Grants for researchers and academic staff
Grants for researchers can be awarded to the researchers and academic staff of higher education institutions abroad. The person using the grant shall hold an academic position at her/his home institutions. For example, the following are considered academic positions: professor, associate professor, teacher, reader, research fellow, lecturer, assistant. PhD students can apply for the scholarship for students only. Under this program are not offered grant for postdoctoral studies.
The grant can be used for research, teaching, collaboration with colleagues etc. Grants for researchers are divided into short-term (1-9 days) and long-term (10 days – 10 calendar months) grants. The subsistence rates are 45 EUR per day and 660 EUR per month respectively.

The Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia and the Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes offer scholarships to several countries, including Switzerland. The following two scholarship programmes are available for Swiss applicants for the academic year 2022/2023:
A1 One semester studies for Croatian language students (mobility: 4-5 months)
Description: Scholarships type A1 are on offer to students (BA or MA) who would like to spend one semester learning Croatian and perfecting their Croatian language skills at either the University of Zagreb (Croaticum) or at the University of Rijeka (Rijeka School of Slavic Studies).
Please note that one application is accepted only for the academic year 2022/2023, either for the autumn term 2022/2023 or for the spring term 2023.
Eligible applicants: Croatian language students and students of Slavic Studies who are currently enrolled in BA or MA studies in their home countries. Students are required to have completed a minimum of 2 semesters at their home institutions.
Candidates for this scholarship can only be nominated by their current Croatian language fellow who should nominate the applicants for the scholarships by his/her Recommendation Letter.

Chercheurs(/euses) issu(e)s de tous pays et titulaire d’un diplôme de l’enseignement supérieur de docteur délivré par une institution étrangère désirant effectuer un programme de type postdoctoral au sein d’établissements d’enseignement supérieur organisés ou subventionnés par la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.

En vue d’appuyer les différents pôles de compétitivité du Plan Marshall 4.0, les domaines privilégiés sont les suivants:

Bewerbungsvoraussetzungen
Das Stipendienangebot für einen Studien- oder Forschungsaufenthalt im Ausland richtet sich an Schweizer Studierende, Forschende und teilweise auch an Kunstschaffende. Bei einigen Ländern können sich auch Personen ohne Schweizer Staatsbürgerschaft bewerben, sofern sie in der Schweiz wohnhaft und an einer Schweizer Hochschule immatrikuliert sind.
Die Voraussetzungen für eine Bewerbung hängen vom jeweiligen Stipendienangebot ab und sind für jedes Gastland unterschiedlich. Länderspezifische Angaben zu den Bewerbungskriterien sind in den Schaltflächen in der obigen Länderkarte sowie in der Listenansicht aufgeführt.

Stipendienleistungen
Die Regierungsstipendien werden von den Gastländern finanziert. Die Stipendienleistungen variieren stark von Land zu Land. Normalerweise deckt ein Regierungsstipendium die Lebens- und Studienkosten im Gastland ab. Einige Länder offerieren jedoch nur Teilstipendien. Alle weiteren Kosten müssen aus eigenen Mitteln finanziert werden. Gegebenenfalls ist es deshalb lohnenswert, sich genau zu informieren, inwiefern eine ergänzende Finanzierung durch anderweitige Mittel nötig und möglich ist.
