Call for Projects – Open Action Lines for 2022

The Open Science Program from swissuniversities welcomes applications from eligible higher education institutions focusing on the following action lines by Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

  1. Setting up of shared services & e-infrastructures
  2. International participations
  3. Alternative forms of publication
  4. Research Assessment

Call for Tenders – Regulatory Framework

As mentioned in the previous issues of our newsletter, the call for tenders Regulatory Framework has been launched in March 2022. The call is by invitation only and all potential bidders have been invited to submit an offer by Friday, July 1, 2022.

Project «HI-FRAME»: Professorial recruitment in an Open Science environment - Karin Gilland Lutz & Mihaela Falub

This webinar took place on April 28th. It provided an exciting introduction to the HI-FRAME project. The University of Zurich addresses the rewards and incentives aspect of the Open Science movement through the project HI-FRAME, which is funded within the federal program P5 Open Science Part A Open Access.

1   Swiss Open Research Data Action Plan - Overview & Next Steps

On May 19, 2022, the webinar «Swiss Open Research Data Action Plan: Overview & Next Steps» will inform participants about the implementation of the action lines that are under the responsibility of swissuniversities. The webinar focuses in particular on the upcoming calls for proposals to support Open Research Data practices as well as data stewardship.

2   Open Science and Data Protection: What do I need to keep in mind?
Anna Kuhn | Data Protection Officer at SWITCH, Attorney at Law, CIPP/E  (LinkedIn)

► Online webinar taking place on Thursday July 21, 2022 from 11:00 to 12:00 pm

The first part of the presentation will be about SWITCH and the recently founded legal consultancy SWITCHlegal (www.switch.ch/legal). Participants will get insights on the working areas of SWITCH for Higher Education and Research Institutions and in particular how institutions can benefit from legal support at SWITCH. In the second part, Anna Kuhn will talk about data protection requirements in connection with Open Science and provide tips and tricks when processing personal data. The final part will be an open discussion and participants are invited to ask their questions.

Anna Kuhn is Data Protection Officer (DPO), Product Manager SWITCHlegal, and Secretary General at SWITCH. Some of her main areas of focus include ICT law, including data protection law, telecommunications law, procurement law, internet governance, licensing law, intellectual property law. Anna is Data Protection Officer at SWITCH, responsible for consulting and training at SWITCH in data protection matters, as well as Head of SWITCHlegal for advising the BFI community on ICT-related legal matters.

DIAMOND OPEN ACCESS

 

EUA signs Action Plan for Diamond Open Access

EUA has signed up to the “Action Plan for Diamond Open Access” which aims to promote a sustainable, community-driven Diamond Open Access (OA) scholarly communication ecosystem. Published on 2 March 2022, the document is an initiative of Science Europe, cOAlition S, OPERAS and the French National Research Agency (ANR).

At the time of launch, over 40 international organisations had already endorsed the Action Plan. Organisations that wish to support the development of the Diamond OA ecosystem and become part of its community can join them at the dedicated form.

DLCM2 - TRAINING

 

Devpro training Establish a Data Management Plan

The Data Life-Cycle Management (DLCM) project team, mandated by swissuniversities, is pleased to announce a new Research Data Management training dedicated to Data Management Plans, set up by DevPro.

The training will take place on 12 and 19 May 2022.

New platform dedicated to scientific journals

The project coordinated by the University of Fribourg now offers research teams the opportunity to publish their journals without publication costs. The aim is to facilitate editorial work and increase the impact of journals while reducing rising publication costs.

GOAL

 

New Website

The GOAL project was launched in January this year and has gone online. You can find information and the latest news on the project's website http://www.opengoal.ch!

GOAL (Unlocking the Green Open Access potentiaL in scholarly and professional journals in Switzerland) aims to promote the so-called green road to Open Access among scholarly and application-oriented journals. The GOAL project intends to negotiate and implement secondary publication policies with the editorial teams of application-oriented journals. In this way, publications in the most important journals could be made accessible in (institutional) repositories.

The university library of ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences leads the project. Partner institutions are Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW), Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and University of Teacher Education Fribourg (HEP| PH FR).

 


 

EVENTS

 

  • Open Science Days - May 09-10, 2022 | HES-SO (hybrid)
    The HES-SO is organising two days dedicated to Open Science on May 9-10, 2022. They will be held in Lausanne at La Source School of Nursing. The days include conferences and practical workshops on Open data (May 9) and Open access (May 10). While face-to-face participation is encouraged, it is also possible to take part remotely. The days are free of charge and open to all interested people.

  • 1st Open Science Train the Trainer Bootcamp – June 06-10, 2022  | online
    Today’s research support staff and other intermediaries need to adapt further to the ever-changing RDM, Open Science and Open Access landscape. With this in mind, OpenAIRE present their 2022 online Bootcamp focusing on “21st-century scholarly communication” to provide training for these individuals who want to train researchers and students.

  • 17th International Digital Curation Conference (IDCC22) – June 13-16, 2022  | online
    IDCC22 will focus on the topic of Reusability.

    The conference will be held online. As usual, the programme will feature keynote speakers, paper presentations, posters, workshops, and other activities of interest to the IDCC attendees.

  • Open Access Days – September 19-21, 2022 | University Library of Bern

  • Science Europe Open Science Conference 2022 – October 18-19, 2022 | Brussels & hybrid
    Science Europe is organising its first conference on Open Science on 18 and 19 October 2022. The goal is to bring together institutional leaders, researchers at all stages of their careers, and experts from the field to discuss two main questions:
    • Is Open Science ready to become the norm in research?
    • How do we ensure an equitable transition to Open Science?
